The market for so-called "safer chemistry" is set to outpace the overall global chemical market during the current decade. Chemicals found in flooring and personal hygiene products come under increased scrutiny as UN and WHO note increasing scientific evidence of potential risks to health amassed from around the world.

Alan Best appointed 2014 Chair of the Flooring Sustainability Partership on which he represents Shaw Industries Inc.  This is a group involving manufacturers, flooring contractors and retailers, government and trade bodies, architects and recycling specialists working together to improve the sustainability of the flooring industry.

Chemsec increase chemicals on the SIN List

Over 600 chemicals are now listed on version 2.1, adding additional chemicals to the list based on information released from the REACH authorities. Many of the new additions are considered to be carcinogenic. The REACH SVHC now runs to 138 chemicals.

Bio based chemicals -when green is toxic

WHEN GREEN IS TOXIC - Article by Dr Mike Belliveau on the benefits and potential hazards associated with some  bio based chemicals.  Here's  a sample of what he has to say......" To make  PVC, the poison plastic, add two carcinogens, pump the resin full of toxic additives and leave a trail of chlorinated waste from production and disposal. Replacing the petroleum in PVC with renewable carbon hardly greens its lifecycle......."
